We are currently looking in to a loss of our website and portal.
This does not affect any services which are all working normally at this time.
Yesterday, one of two of our hardware firewalls that sit in front of our portal, website and core services failed.
These are configured in what is called a "HA", high availability pair which means should one fail, the other will take over with less than a second or two of downtime. Whilst this is tested every 60 days, it did not happen in this instance for reasons that are yet to be identified.
On attempting to fail over the primary to secondary, the configuration did not copy across correctly leading to a situation with two firewalls, neither believing they are the master and not routing traffic.
Our engineers were attempting to resolve this remotely without travelling to the datacentre due to current social distancing rules. They managed to restore most services by 4am leaving only a handful of services needing further attention.
We are continuing to monitor the situation and are working with Cisco to determine the cause of the failure.
